Piano Lessons: 2020 in Review
Usually, each year of teaching piano is predictable. I meet with my students in person weekly, we have frequent group classes, special events and two large recitals annually. Every year, it’s mostly the same.
Well, 2020 changed everything. Overnight, piano lessons went online and our “events” became performances recorded by students and hosted on YouTube.
There were some adjustments, but we all adapted. While in-person piano lessons and events are incredible, I am impressed with how much my students have grown during our online experience: they ask more questions about their music and take notes. They are engaged!!!
For our YouTube events, out of state friends and family members can now watch the performances. That is so special! From this, I have decided to always include “digital” events along with our live recitals (fingers crossed to return in 2021!!!).
While I can't wait to return back to a normal teaching year, I will always be grateful for my piano students and their incredible resilience to adapt and adjust to new ways of learning. They inspire me daily! Because of that, I thought this quote was fitting❤️.
